There are template features in both Kanbanize and ProdGoal so you can set up quickly, but if you want to take a more personalized approach, you can build the project features from the ground up using multiple features at your disposal.

You can create unlimited boards in both tools. They follow the Kanban methodology so they are very flexible and easy to use, though to be fair Kanbanize’s boards can be a little intimidating for a beginner.

Kanbanize and ProdGoal let you create an unlimited number of columns on a board. In ProdGoal you can set both minimum and maximum WIP (work in progress) limits while there is a general Limit option available in Kanbanize. Then there are column policies that you can define per column and create column types and type categories.

WIP limit icons change their color appropriately when you come near or go over the limits, but the feature allows you to still make new tasks and delete the old ones.

Then there are column types. You can create new column types in the column menu. Each type can be colored differently to make categorization easier. For each type, there are item type categories to identify them by. You can choose from 5 of the predefined categories, so you can’t create more, at least in ProdGoal, but you can change their names.

In order to get unlimited users, in Kanbanize you would have to subscribe to Enterprise plan. In ProdGoal, you have the ability to invite an unlimited number of users for free.

When you invite users to ProdGoal, you can assign tasks to them right away so you don’t waste time and wait for them to accept the invitation.

That’s not the case in Kanbanize. You cannot set the invited user as an owner, co-owner, watcher, or contributor unless that user hasn’t accepted the invitation to your workspace.

The fresh new feature of Kanbanize is its Timeline feature, but it is only available in the Enterprise plan. Other than that, Kanbanize actually doesn’t offer anything of the sort in its Standard plan. Luckily, ProdGoal does. Next-gen roadmap feature where you can move cards in both axes.

But not only that, of course. It is a customizable and flexible view where you can put the needs, goals, and strategy into perspective and focus on important work. Because of its collapsible rows and columns, it helps you filter out unnecessary things.

A rich-text editor helps you customize the message and add attachments to point out the crucial points in the flow.

And last but not least, roadmap cards have a progress bar displayed on them, so you can immediately see the progress a card has made on its way. When the bar is clicked on, it shows the list of all board items that the card depends on. They are sorted by the status column they are in.

A feature both tools have where the calculation magic happens. It is a bit difficult to find out where this feature is in Kanbanize or how to use it, but what’s important is that there is one in the first place.

On the other hand, ProdGoal handles this with more intuition and user experience in mind. Just arrange the tasks in one of the groups and it will begin to calculate right away. If there are done items in the group, that is. Because the calculation needs finished tasks to be able to calculate the estimation.

In ProdGoal, in the groups you can create a connection between a group item and a roadmap card.
